Section Eight

Parks are a place for everyone. They are surrounded beautiful scenery and wildlife. They are very peaceful. Anyone can visit a park and enjoy nature. Parks are full of trees, flowers, shrubs, runners, walkers, kids playing, homeless people, dogs barking, frisbees, laughter- everything. No one is excluded from visiting a park, and it is one of the most enjoyable free things out there.

To me parks represent an idealistic society: a society that is one with nature, and accepting of everyone. Parks are one of the few things that everyone is welcome to enjoy. It is a peaceful place to take a break or enjoy a run. It suits everyone, and has many different purposes to each person who visits. I wish our society was as wonderful a place for everyone as a park is. In parks everyone are equals, everyone is freed by nature, and everyone feels happier.

I really enjoy visiting local parks, and I do so almost every day. Whether I’m going for a walk with friends, doing a workout, or sitting on a bench completing an English project, I spend a lot of time outdoors. I love nature, and being outside because I can enjoy fresh air, the smell of pine trees, and watch squirrels chase each other! I feel so privileged living in British Columbia because there are so many parks in this province. They surround lakes, campsites, mountains, and even show up near major roads and highways. I am positive that someone couldn’t find a place in North Vancouver where there wasn’t a park or trail within a ten kilometer radius. I think my favorite park is Lynne Canyon, because it is so rich in nature. When it rains there everything takes on a stronger colour, and it feels like the forest comes alive. The smells of pine trees, dense soil, and water rushing against rocks become bolder. I feel like I’m part of nature when I visit parks, and so I enjoy visiting them on a regular basis.
